Yet More Blog 27th September – October 8th

Stirrin’stuff ran three interactive children’s cookery demonstrations in primary school in Inverness- shire on 27th September. The demonstrations were kindly sponsored by Hamlyn Oats in preparation for the world porridge making Championships on October 8th. There was a really quick turn around between the rural schools and consequently Fi had little time to appreciate the breath taking beauty of the countryside - the roads were rather twisty. The air was Scots Pine scented when we reached the final school in the woods - hide and seek at playtime must be great fun. Lots of children were ‘hands on cooking’ in the interactive demonstrations and the dinner ladies allowed Fi to invade their territory to wash up between demonstrations. The village shop at Boat Garten is worth a visit too – Fi found fantastic Highland organic crowdie on sale.

The Porridge Making Championships were great fun. Fi discovered that her taste buds are very tuned into salt content. The winning entries tasted fabulous but Fi was really keen on a speciality entry which used smoked haddock. Sadly not everyone could be a winner – one or two were less tasty. The Executive Chef of Gleneagles kept the judges in line and the end results were unanimous. A quite brilliant young artist painted as the contestants made and judges sampled porridge for 3˝ hours. Her work is fantastic http://www.jennysoep.com/

An amazing day, organised by amazing people, lead by the irrepressible community spirited Linda Jolly.
